SEV-GATA makes demands on Lufthansa Technik
Job cuts at Euro Airport are over the top
Staff at Lufthansa Technik Switzerland, Euro Airport Basle, have been informed today that 95 full-time jobs would be cut. SEV-GATA considers the job cuts totally exaggerated. It expects that the number will be reduced and those concerned will be offered adequate positions within the Lufthansa-group.
Job cuts over 20 percent of the personnel are massive and raise questions as to the company’s strategy. Although there is a good short-term capacity, orders seem to drop beginning in March. Staff cuts to this extent, however, are undoubtedly over the top and must be clearly reduced. Within the consultation process SEV-GATA is going to make corresponding proposals.
Those who lose their jobs may benefit from services provided by the existing social plan. SEV-GATA demands, however, to improve the terms of the contract, wherever necessary in each individual case. In addition SEV-GATA appeals to the Lufthansa-group, a world-class company, to keep jobs vacant at other locations for those who are made redundant in Basle.
SEV-GATA expects that Lufthansa Technik Switzerland’s strategy of reducing the number of personnel will lead to success. The management declares that staffcuts will safeguard Basle as the location. SEV-GATA demands that Lufthansa makes a clear commitment to Basle and offers long-term prospects for its employees.
SEV-GATA (Groundstaff Aviation Technics and Administration) is the air traffic department of the transport union SEV.
